Over 50's Club

St. Luke’s Over 50s Club
Fridays 11am-3.30pm in the Community Hall

Alison Skeat joined our team in January 2019 and The Over ’50s Club was set up in March 2019, after she invited our older E16 neighbours to come to an afternoon tea & tiffin.  Alison asked them what they would like: some said they’d like to cook, some wanted board games, others wanted a bit of gentle exercise.  Most just wanted somewhere to socialise with neighbours.

From this a regular Friday club called SLO’50 (St. Luke’s Over ’50s Club) began.  It’s a laid back affair, where folk can get involved in activities, should they wish to.  Many just like to pop in for an hour or so for cup of a tea & a chat.  Some fun was had at Christmas when there was a party organised for the members.

Then Covid happened and forced people into self isolation. That’s been hard for all and some have sadly not made it through.

In the summer lull Bikeworks took our members on their side by side bike for rides around the estate & up to Morrisons to pick some shopping. That was a joyous break for those who took to the wheels adn it’s become a regular feature . Our members also got teckie doing zoom calls with our corporate volunteers.  During Lockdown we were donated tablets & laptops and are supporting our members to get online.

The health crisis forced us to put the club on hold, but Alison stayed in touch with our members on a weekly basis taking supplies to those who wanted a weekly delivery.  Now, gradually the club has started to come back since we reopened again in May.

If you, or someone in your house would like to get out for a while, why not come & hang out with us on a Friday.  You may meet one of your neighbours and make new friends. We are also hoping, in the future, to run an occasional trip out to the seaside or a place of interest.

The club is organised by Alison Skeat.  You can call her on 07857 501886 or 020 7344 6403 for further details if you would like to join us. Alternatively you might email Alison alison.skeat@chctcrp.org.uk.
